LEAN APPLICATION – The Role of Standards in Continuous Improvement

      Synopsis

“Where there is no standard, there can be no kaizen”. While Taiichi Ohno’s wise words are well known, very few truly understand the value and importance of creating standard work. Join us for a fun and interactive exercise that highlights:

      • The many benefits of documenting standards
      • How to create standard work
      • Ways the concept can be applied across various functions and roles

      Speaker: Christy Nikel of LeanU

Christy is on a mission to help companies engage employees to solve problems. As a Master Lean Black Belt with 15 years of experience teaching and applying the tools, her goal is to present Lean in a practical, effective and energizing way.

LEAN JOURNEY: 2 Second Lean, a trip to Japan with Paul Akers, morning meetings and daily improvements at PMPs pre-fab shop in Langley.

Synopsis – Pitt Meadows Plumbing and Mechanical Systems, founded in 1979,  is a family owned business that has doubled in size in the past four years. The owners recognized some time ago that pre-fabricating mechanical systems off site is at least four times more efficient than building on site. Our speakers today will share some stories that started with Phil reading 2-Second Lean while on a beach in Mexico and the resulting transformation of a prefab shop in Langley.

Speakers: Sam Revel – Senior Pre-Fabrication Manager

Sam began work in Mechanical Contracting 10 years ago ‘on the tools’ for a prefabrication company in the UK before emigrating to Canada in 2016. Sam holds a Bachelors in Building Services Engineering, is registered with the Engineering Council and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).

Phil Robinson – Prefabrication Shop Manager

Always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to increase efficiency, Phil entered the industry in 2005. His 13 years of experience include institutional, commercial and residential projects. Phil visited Toyota in Japan to learn about their innovative production system.
