Cathleen Peter-Swart is an experienced senior executive with over 15 years in strategic human resources (HR) and a legal practitioner. Prior to moving to Canada, Cathleen was a practicing attorney, conveyancer and notary public and practiced law for 14 years, 9 in her own legal practice. The major focus of her own legal practice was labour law and HR. Upon moving to Canada, Cathleen decided to shift career gears and focus exclusively on HR as an HR professional. She made this career change so that she could spend more time with her family and have greater work-life balance.
Cathleen is the chief people champion officer (CPCO) at Westcor Construction Ltd. in Calgary. She is responsible for HR, communications as well as Lean implementation and assists with corporate safety. As a member of the senior management team, she also assists with high-level strategy development and tactical execution. Before working at Westcor, Cathleen worked for the City of Chestermere for 4 years as the assistant director of corporate services. She was responsible for HR, safety and communications. For a period of 8 months in 2017, Cathleen was the interim director of corporate services while still fulfilling her role as assistant director. During this interim period, Cathleen’s portfolio expanded to also include IT, finance, events, and economic development.
Cathleen has received numerous international, provincial and local awards, including Gold and Honourable Mention Marcom and Hermes Awards, the CPHR Alberta Award of Excellence and the City of Chestermere CAO’s Excellence in Leadership Award. Cathleen holds various degrees including a master’s degree in law and post-graduate degree in English. Cathleen is a CPHR, CTMP and Change Management Practitioner (Prosci Certified).
